Case Studies

Preparation Is Key When Competition to Be Quoted Is Fierce

The Background:

Our client, co-head of the appellate practice at one of the largest law firms in the Southeast U.S., and an AmLaw 200 firm, wanted to be positioned as a source on the Walmart v. Dukes Supreme Court case. The case was one of the most important of the court's 2010-2011 term as it had significant implications for class action suits of all types and employment class actions in particular

A More Effective Solution to a Legal Marketing Problem:

We knew there would be significant competition for commentators when the ruling came down, so ahead of the ruling we provided information about our client to key Supreme Court beat reporters and other reporters, as well as initial quotes from him about the importance of the case to place him on their radar as a potential source when the time came. On the day of the ruling our client provided us with an excellent quote that we sent to those same reporters, as well as any others tasked with covering the decision.

Exceptional Public Reputation Management Results:

Our efforts resulted in a story that ran initially on The National Law Journal website and was then picked up across the American Lawyer Media family of publications, including AmLaw Daily and Corporate Counsel. Our client was quoted extensively on Portfolio.com, which is the sister website of the national “bizjournals” publications, and in an article on the case published by The Huntsville (Ala.) Times. We also set him up to write an article for the American Lawyer Media newsletter, Corporate Counsel. Our work also triggered a call from a producer at CNN's "John King, USA” who was seeking some facts on background. While this did not result in an on-camera interview, it provided us with a solid connection to explore for future Supreme Court rulings.
