Content. Content. Content. It’s the mantra of Legal Brand Journalism.™ Fresh, original content is essential for drawing visitors to your website. But there’s a catch: You have to write that content to use it. And that can be tough. It takes time, focus and energy to develop good content. Here are some tips for getting that writing done.
Get up an hour early
If you have an established exercise regimen, you know that getting your workout done in the morning, before your day gets in the way, is one of the best ways to guarantee it happens. The same can be said for writing. If you have an article, blog post or other writing task to do, consider getting up an hour earlier than normal, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting down at the computer before anything else intervenes. You’ll be amazed at how productive you can be.
Take a break
Do you ever have that experience where you can’t remember a name or other piece of information and, no matter how hard you try, it won’t come to you? Often, the moment you stop thinking about it, the information floats up into your mind. Writing can be a lot like that. If you have been working on something that just won’t come together, take a break and let your subconscious have at it. It’s likely ideas will hit you out of nowhere if you take a break.
Go for a walk
Exercise is known to promote creativity. It gets the blood moving to your brain. So, before you sit down to write, take 15 minutes to just move. Your writing will be sharper and more creative.
Read outside your area of expertise
The most prolific writers are almost always prolific readers. The two go hand-in-hand. Your brain needs raw material to feed your imagination. You probably do a significant amount of reading in your area of expertise already, but consider switching things up with other forms of writing. Grab a book of poetry or short stories and give your brain a treat – and something to work with.
By following these tips, you’ll kick-start your writing and be more likely to have a constant supply of fresh content available. For more information, contact Kevin at KAschenbrenner@JaffePR.com.
