Professionally speaking 

A true strategist with more than 20 years of experience as a legal services marketer, Sue Remley brings smart, proactive marketing ideas to law firms nationwide. Because Sue knows her clients’ businesses inside and out, and understands the legal marketing industry so well, she easily partners with her clients, methodically strategizing with them to modify and improve their marketing efforts. Trusted for much more than her marketing skills, she is also adept at working through management issues related to profitability, firm governance, mergers and dissolutions, lateral hires and staffing, cross-selling, and myriad other complex issues. Her strong suit is business development strategy and implementation – working with lawyers to increase business and ROI.

Named by Lawdragon as one of the top 100 legal consultants in the country, Sue has developed an extensive business development coaching practice over the past several years, working to systematically enhance attorneys’ productivity and effectiveness. She has worked one-on-one with hundreds of attorneys, assisting them in determining and reaching their professional goals.

Before joining Jaffe PR, Sue owned Creative Solutions Marketing and Communications Counsel, which provided marketing consulting services to numerous law firms; before that, she was director of marketing for 10 years at McGuireWoods, an AmLaw 100 firm, where she was responsible for managing the marketing and communications needs of more than 1,000 lawyers and staff in the U.S. and overseas.

Sue is a founding member and past president of the Virginias Chapter of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA). She has also served as the group’s vice president, treasurer and secretary, and on various committees. On the national level, Sue has served on the President’s Committee and Member Value Task Force of the LMA. Sue is a frequent speaker for the organization, presenting at six national conferences on topics including strategic alliances, leadership, team building, strategic planning and Web 2.0/social media topics. She also presents to the Association of Legal Administrators and various bar associations annually.

Sue earned her B.S. with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University and a master’s in Marketing, Marketing Professional Services Series, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is based in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Personally speaking

Sue’s knack for legal marketing stems from her unparalleled ability to connect with people on a deep and meaningful level. This talent is rooted in her many years of working in local theater. Early on as an actor and later as a writer, director and producer,  Sue collaborated with teams of talented people (ensemble casts) to create an overarching vision for each performance and on individual character development to support the vision.

Sue finds the theater-production process to be uncannily similar to working with law firms regarding goal setting, strategy development and assimilating individual attorney experience to achieve plan goals. Both processes may initially seem like “herding cats,” but, by understanding the big picture while valuing individual propensities and skills, achieving goals is a snap.

When not busy working with Jaffe clients, Sue enjoys viewing art exhibits, spending time with her young-adult sons and doting on Higsbee, a Boston Terrier and one of the great loves of her life.
