Marketing Tips

We kicked off our new Marketing Tip of the Week with the all-important concept of networking — whether in person or online.  Even with all the advances in technology, lawyers still need to work a room and network with colleagues and potential clients.  For the lawyers reading this, are you using Legal OnRamp or Linked In or any other social networking sites to meet prospects and referral sources? If so, what is your greatest 2.0/social networking success story?

Media Relations Policies

Our marketing tip for September 22, 2008 was prompted by the fact that many law firms, despite their best intentions for marketing and public relations, do not have a firm wide media relations policy, much less a social media relations policy. Perhaps firms think that a policy is only necessary for crisis situations, but in fact, it makes a lot of sense to distribute a media relations policy to everyone in the firm, even if the firm is not encountering a crisis. A media relations policy simply instructs attorneys and staff on what to do if a journalist (traditional or 2.0/blogger) contacts them, requesting information. There should always be a straightforward communications policy, so that attorneys and staff are equipped to handle these unpredictable calls. Has your firm enacted a policy?
