Bloggers and Breaking News: A Perfect Match
One of the first reports of U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey's collapse during a late-night speech at a black-tie dinner for the Federalist Society came via a legal blogger. It is a another high profile example of the value of pitching to blogs: they are ready and able to publish a story anytime, 24 hours a day. Granted, most news won’t be as dramatic as the Mukasey situation, but has anyone found success breaking a story by feeding it to a blogger first?

Another great aspect to breaking news on a blog is that other bloggers – and mainstream media too – are very likely to pick up the news and run it themselves. Well-established blogs have become a regular, go-to source of information and “scoops” for traditional print, radio, and television reporters. Placing a hot story in the right blog is not a one-to-one proposition; I’ve found that it can often pay off five or even tenfold.
