Fresh focus for Google
In an effort to refine and deliver the most recent and timely search results, Google has changed its algorithm … again.
Have you ever run a search, only to find the results list a bunch of outdated information from 2009 when you really need to see what is being said on the topic in 2011? Particularly for trending topics, we want up-to-the-minute information. Well, now you have it, thanks to Google’s latest algorithm change.
What should PR and marketing professionals do?
- Continue posting regular, relevant and keyword-rich content to your websites/blogs with clear publication dates.
- Capitalize on trending topics to optimize media and consumer-facing content.
- Use social media sites to encourage fresh content through discussions and comments while increasing your ‘share’ factor. As with Panda, the more your content is shared, the higher it will rank in the SERPs (search engine results page).
- Encourage visitors to click on your RSS feeds. As with social sharing, RSS feeds seem to be a contributing factor. (I say “seems” because no one can ever say for sure.)
- Remember to optimize video titles and alt descriptions.
And as always, keep your eye on your analytics to see how Google’s changes are affecting your search results.
