Marketing matters more than ever

Some recoil, pull back and even retreat. But others take advantage of a down economy and pounce on the opportunity to be seen and heard.

Why does marketing matter more than ever right now? It’s always dangerous to starve your brand, and doing it now is even more dangerous. Why? Your clients have more competitive choices now than ever and are more discriminating with their choices. You can’t afford not to be seen and heard.

The good news is the noise is down: Other companies are cutting back on their marketing efforts. The bad news is when you’re one of those companies, because the smart, marketing-savvy companies are using this opportunity to become more aggressive. This is the perfect time to pounce and snatch market share from your rivals – or have it snatched away from you!

Long-term thinking is the key. Those who don’t continue to promote their brand during this rough patch may find that their brand and services are worth a lot less when the environment improves. So, pay for it now or really pay for it in the future!

Great post and a great call to action for all sorts of businesses. While it may seem like a smart idea to cut back on marketing, design, and branding...what you are doing is cutting back on the investment in your company. Investing in marketing and outreach not only boosts business development, sales, and partnerships; it shows you are serious about being around for the long haul.

That being said...don't market in the dark. There are plenty of creative agencies out there to help you out with your needs and budget.

Thank you for the response. You too are spot on. When times are good, commitment to long-range branding and marketing initiatives know few bounds. But when profits drop and fear sets in the PR and marketing budgets are an irresistible target. Time to think differently.
