Getting Ranked to Raise a Practice’s Profile

The Issue

Jaffe’s client, a New York law firm with a strong financial services practice, was eager to enhance its profile by earning a prominent spot in a major law firm ranking survey. Our consultants knew that the International Financial Law Review’s IFLR1000 was a recognized ranking for this type of practice and, through competitive analysis, discovered that several of the firm’s competitors were ranked on the IFLR1000, despite their comparatively less-impressive portfolios of work. Encouraged by its high probability of success, the firm tasked Jaffe with leading its first-ever foray into law firm ranking submissions.

The firm tasked Jaffe with leading its first-ever foray into law firm ranking submissions.

The Strategy

The time investment required to complete most law firm ranking submissions is often the greatest challenge. This burden is often most prohibitive for the firms that work the hardest and deliver the greatest value to their clients. Jaffe’s RankingsForLawyers service exists to get law firms the recognition they’ve earned without disrupting their day-to-day operations.

In the case of our client, we took control of the submission process, putting our extensive research experience to work to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness. Our team created a comprehensive checklist of materials required to complete the submission packet and developed a process for gathering deal and matter information from the firm’s attorneys. As questions arose, Jaffe was there to facilitate communication with IFLR.

Furthermore, to ensure that IFLR’s research editors saw the very best of our client’s dynamic practice, our team arranged for an IFLR representative to meet in person with the firm’s partners. As a result of this relationship, the firm was able to convey its unique competitive advantages more effectively, and IFLR was able to provide feedback that was invaluable to the submission process.

The Impact

With Jaffe’s help, the firm scored placement in the IFLR1000 after its very first submission. Our consultants followed up with IFLR to obtain additional feedback to help improve our client’s ranking the following year.

For several consecutive years, Jaffe has helped to steadily improve the firm’s IFLR1000 ranking by implementing valuable feedback, arranging ongoing partner interviews with research editors and fine-tuning the fact-finding process. The firm is growing its core practice under its enhanced reputation and continues to leverage Jaffe’s successful work to pursue additional law firm rankings.
