Why I Love My Job
I love the sense of accomplishment that I get from helping attorneys become successful. Their success is my success.

Professionally Speaking

Jim has enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades helping professional services firms, nearly half of it spent leading the strategic marketing and business development programs for several law firms. He brings a well-rounded approach earned through experience across the professional services spectrum, not just in legal, but also accounting/financial services, management consulting, and engineering/design-build. In all his work, Jim focuses on achieving goals and never assumes that “the way we’ve always done it” is necessarily the best way.

Stints in leadership roles at two AmLaw 100 firms and management roles at a handful of smaller regional firms and boutiques have helped shape Jim’s national reputation as a leader in the field. As a business development coach, his experience has given him the tenacity and gravitas to work with attorneys at any stage of their careers, from junior associates to the senior-most rainmakers.

At Jaffe, Jim helps clients by building structure and accountability into their BD planning and offers one-on-one or group dynamic coaching programs. He has developed and conducted formal training programs on a variety of topics that are often eligible for CLE credit, including business development planning, cross-selling strategies, personal branding, social media and delivering the perfect elevator pitch. Jim is also a certified “Yellow Belt” by the Legal Lean Institute for legal project management and process improvement.

Favorite Interests

Broadway — I see shows as often as possible. I am a long-suffering, but diehard, Cleveland Browns fan. The loves of my life are my three dogs!

Personally Speaking

Jim’s undergraduate studies included working at the college radio station and doing lots of theater, so it’s no great surprise that he’s so comfortable presenting and speaking to large groups of people. Since he was seven, Jim has appeared in, directed, produced or worked backstage on more than 150 theater productions. He is also an accomplished singer, has performed cabaret acts in Chicago and Cleveland, and looks forward to planning his New York cabaret debut very soon.

A more-recent interest of Jim’s is world travel. While friends back home were shoveling their driveways last winter, Jim was lounging on the Copacabana Beach in Rio. He loved the city so much that he is planning a return visit in 2019 for Carnival. Other favorite destinations include Las Vegas, San Francisco, Fort Lauderdale and Provincetown.
