Why I Love My Job
As a former journalist, I thrive on connecting clients with reporters seeking smart, insightful and impactful commentary for news stories about a variety of legal and business topics.

Professionally Speaking

Kathy draws on her first career in broadcast journalism to craft media relations plans that align with a client’s business development objectives. She has a proven track record of executing successful PR campaigns that secure placement in top-tier print, digital and broadcast media.

Before joining Jaffe, Kathy spent more than 15 years in Washington, D.C., directing the international public relations teams at three Am Law 100 firms, including one Global 10 firm. In these positions, she designed strategic communications plans to elevate awareness of the firms, their practices and lawyers before target audiences in key markets. These campaigns incorporated a variety of channels, including external and internal communications, social media, and events. At all three firms, Kathy served as a firm spokesperson and a trusted adviser to senior executives, developing key messaging for internal and external audiences, including crisis communications.

Before moving in-house, Kathy led the public relations team at a boutique D.C.-based government and public affairs firm. Her diverse book of clients included financial institutions, trade associations, entrepreneurs and lifestyle experts, among others. Along with securing media placements, Kathy played instrumental roles in planning and executing high-profile events such as the VH1 Save the Music concert in the Hamptons and those held in conjunction with the Sundance Film Festival, New York Fashion Week and the NBA All-Star Weekend. She also scored the NYSE closing bell for a client.

In her first career, Kathy was an award-winning journalist at CBS and FOX television affiliates. For a decade, she served as a primary weeknight news anchor, logging more than 1,000 hours of live television news. She also reported from the scene of a wide array of breaking news, including Amtrak’s deadliest train derailment, covered political news and conducted live, on-camera interviews with members of Congress, as well as state and local politicians. Among her most memorable assignments were reporting live from the GOP national convention, providing wall-to-wall coverage of four hurricanes, anchoring full-day live coverage of Mardi Gras parades and pulling 7Gs with the Navy’s Blue Angels.

Favorite Interests

Traveling, running outside, snow skiing, Broadway shows, watching Texas Longhorn football and spending time with my fiancé, whether we’re checking out new restaurants or simply running errands.

Personally Speaking

Kathy enjoys exploring new places, whether it’s visiting a charming and historic town, riding every rollercoaster at Cedar Point, relaxing on the deck of a cruise ship, sipping wine at a winery, or hiking glacial terrain in Antarctica. She also remains the forever news junkie who keeps up with current events and news, both locally and internationally.

While her professional career has taken Kathy from Texas to Northern Michigan to the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast to Washington, D.C., she now spends most of her time in Pittsburgh with her fiancé, a native son of the ’burgh. She loves that Jaffe provides her with the opportunity to work from anywhere.

A fourth-generation Texan and native Dallasite, Kathy makes several visits to the Lone Star State throughout the year, where she dines on authentic Tex Mex and enjoys cheering on her Texas Longhorns either on the Austin campus, where she earned her degree, or at the annual Red River Rivalry game held during the State Fair of Texas.
